Meet
Dr. Elizabeth H. Stehling

With a doctorate in speech language pathology from Northwestern University, specializing in language, literacy and learning development, my purpose is to provide holistic, compassionate, and empathetic care while advocating for the needs of those I work with. I continuously strive to enhance my knowledge and skills to ensure the best possible outcomes for my clients.

I believe in the power of education to transform lives. Whether you or your child needs a little extra support to bridge a gap, more intensive intervention, or anything in between, I'm committed to providing tailored support that goes beyond traditional intervention. I strive to understand each student's unique strengths and challenges, creating a nurturing environment where they can thrive academically and personally. I strongly believe in cultivating deep and meaningful relationships that are built on trust and respect.

I have extensive professional experience with writing, working and supporting IEPs. No matter what educational setting your child is in: ICT, General Education, 12:1 classroom setting, I work with all learners with diverse needs.

My literacy journey began with a deep realization of the impact literacy has on a child’s future. While working in a high needs school district in the public education school system, I saw firsthand the challenges faced by students who struggled to read. Many of my students couldn’t decode words fluently, comprehend texts, or identify the main idea of a passage. I was often tasked with addressing IEP goals that didn’t align with the actual skill levels of the students in front of me. The goals overlooked critical foundational gaps, making it nearly impossible for the students to succeed. I was determined to bridge those gaps, ensuring my students could access the curriculum and build the skills needed to thrive—rather than perpetuating the cycle of frustration and widening the gap.

Determined to make a difference, I immersed myself in research, professional development, and evidence-based practices. Today, I provide individualized reading intervention designed to empower children to become confident, capable readers. My approach is holistic—I take the time to understand each child’s unique needs, strengths, and challenges. Whether your child has a learning disability, ADHD, or simply needs extra support, I tailor my methods to meet their specific goals.

Language and literacy are deeply interconnected and must be targeted cohesively for true success. Language forms the foundation for literacy, providing the skills needed for comprehension, vocabulary, and the ability to make meaning from text. Literacy, in turn, is the highest form of communication, allowing individuals to express themselves, access information, and engage with the world through written communication. This is why my expertise in both language and literacy development is essential—by addressing these areas together, I ensure that students build the strong, interconnected skills they need to thrive academically and beyond.

A child’s only job is to learn, and it should never fall solely on the child or their parents to figure out how to read. Reading is a complex skill that requires explicit, structured, and evidence-based instruction. It’s my role to provide the support, tools, and strategies needed to ensure every child has the opportunity to succeed, without placing undue pressure on them or their families. Together, we can build a strong foundation for lifelong learning and confidence.

I absolutely love helping individuals unlock their full potential. Seeing someone grow, gain confidence, and achieve what once seemed out of reach is the most rewarding part of my work. It’s my passion and privilege to guide each person on their journey toward success.
